2018 Y’ARR THAT BE THE TOP O’ THE CHARTS

Written by on December 30, 2018

We began late last year by doing a monthly Top Ten show each month that was voted by you, our listeners. We asked you to vote for the songs you were listening to the most, right now. These were not your all time favorite songs, there’d be no point in having a Top Ten every month for that. No, we were looking for the songs you were listening to the most and we thank all who vote each and every month.

To determine this list I took each Top Ten result, made a point system for each placement, and counted them all up. I did not want to do it by song due to the current nature of voting, plus that’s more work than I am willing to do this holiday season. There is a concentrated fan base right now dominating the voting system, which I had have no problem with, I just wished they at least listened to the show as much as they voted. Some interesting notes:

  • Capt’n Tor & the Naer-Do-Well-Cads Pirate Invasion were number one seven out of the twelve months of 2018. Pride O’ Bedlam were the only other band to have multiple number one finishes.
  • The Pirates Charles had the most enteries on the Top Ten with 14, Capt’n Tor & the Naer-Do-Well-Cads Pirate Invasion were second with 13.
  • Madman’s Window finished in the Top Ten despite only appearing in it past the half way mark of the year.
  • We had 27 different bands in the Top Ten in 2018, with 8 bands appearing once and 5 bands appearing twice.
  • Every band on the final Top Ten appeared in at least half of the Top Tens of 2018.
  • I actually got to see half of these Top Ten in person in 2018 with the Musical Blades being the only US based band I didn’t get to see live. The other four are all international, which also speaks to the quality of pirate music right now.

Thank you to everyone who took time out of their day and voted. If you only vote and don’t actually listen to the show we do ask that you please at least give us a listen. We’re obviously playing music you enjoy. We will end however with a list of all the bands who made it into our Top Ten at some point in 2018.
